Family Day Out?
Families always looking for the perfect day out. Well if you're ever in Hollywood,California why not try the Museum of Death! No age limit so perfect for the kiddies, as their website states We all die . They do however recommend mature audiences due to the contents. The museum was originally established in 1995 in San Diego, in a building the owners claimed was the city's first mortuary. It began as a hobby of the founders J. D. Healy and Catherine Shultz. They would write to serial killers they were interested in, and then show off the artwork their pen pals had created once a year at a specialist show. In 1995, after a few years of exhibitions, the collection, and many other materials, were made into a museum. In late 1999, the couple attempted to acquire a large amount of materials from the Heaven's Gate cult suicides. Though they had been able to purchase many items prior to the main police auction, their interest in buying enough merchandise to recreate the scene in its entirety, led to enormous press interest and publicity. They were subsequently evicted by their landlord, and moved to Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. So what delights await you at the museum ? Well possibly the most notable item is the skull of Henri Landru aka Blue Beard of Paris , a french serial killer convicted of 11 murders and executed by guillotine in 1922. Other treats include the worlds largest collection of serial killer artwork, photos of the Charles Manson crime scenes, original crime scene and morgue photos from the grisly Black Dahlia murder, a body bag and coffin collection, replicas of full size execution devices, mortician and autopsy instruments, and pet death taxidermy. Also on display are videos of autopsies and serial killers, the Heaven's Gate Cult recruiting video, and the infamous Traces (not Faces) of Death video, all real (not re-enacted) death footage. Well certainly a bit different from Peppa Pig world , but here at Social Pariah we definitely think its worth a look if you're ever out that way but maybe not with the kids in tow !
